Building Science 1
Project 1 Human Perception of Comfort Level
Choose a room inside a residence and identify the principles of heat transfer inside the space. To understand the factors of thermal comfort and how to make necessary adjustments. Lastly, a critics about the thermal comfort of a space shal be given referring to MS1525 or/ and UBBL.
Project 2 Integration with Design Studio 3
Buildings shall not only be measured in terms of its beauty but also how well it is in being sustainable. Thermal comfort shall be considered during the early stage of the design and not after. This project allows us to highlight the basic building design that we included in our design for Studio 3 and the alterations made with the purpose of keeping the building sustainable.
Learning Outcomes
The main outcome of the project is to better understand thermal comfort not only theoretically but also practically. An understanding of the general principle of heat trasnfer is another outcome. I am able to explain the sun's effects on the thermal performance and hence comfort in the building. Climate and site conditions also affect the building's thermal conditions. Different material has different U-value, K-value and R-value. It will give different thermal effects to the building under a given environment.
Learning Outcomes
Through this project I am able to design a building following the basic building requirements and include passive systems when needed. The heat gain in a space can be calculated and hence heat and ventilation are the variables wihch can be altered by the execution of the design process. Designing a building with thermal comfort is crucial to keep it sustainable. Reference to MS 1525 and UBBL are also conducted during the process.
