Project 1 - Falling Water by Frank Lloyd Wright (Group)

For our first project of semester 2, we grouped ourselves and chose an architect to further analyse. Our decision fell to Frank Lloyd Wright, a very famous American Architect who is well known for his masterpiece Falling Water. The first part of the project is to make a video, documenting about the architect and the buikding. The video is to be presented in front of the class.

We were told to produce plans of Falling Water. We distributed the work equally among the group members. It was challenging as we would have to make sure that the length, width and the heights are uniform. We did some calculations and resized the drawings we obtained from the internet a few times before we settled down with the correct measurements.

Model 1                                                                                                Model 2

The last part of project 1 is to make a concept model of our building. We made a more detailed Falling Water at first, then proceeded to make a  second one which is less detailed and more conceptual, showing the massing of the buiding. We also made a site model using cardboard to accomodate our model.

The learning outcome of this project is that I am able to know more about the architect Frank Lloyd Wright. At the same time, I also gained some knowledge about the other architects from the other groups. I am able to name some famous buildings built by these famous architects.I gained analytical skills and able to produce diagrams. I understood that architecture is composed of planes, solids, lines as well as frames.

From this project we also did an analysis, which includes geometry, hierarchy, balance, etc. First, we separated the work and do our individual analysis, then we gather along as a group and discuss further to decide if our individual analysis are correct or need some corrections.
